The former BBC journalist and radio presenter who was one of Andrew Kayira's best friends is going to start presenting a Saturday political show called 'Tula twogere' from this Saturday on th e 7.03.2009. The Uganda Citizen has learnt that Henry's show is mainly going to focus on current political affairs as well as discussing whether the NRM government has fulfilled its 10 point programmes, which they set out to implement after waging a war that lasted for 5 years. This war caused a lot of suffering and deaths mainly to the Baganda tribe in the Luweero triangle who supported the NRM rebel movement which was called the National Resistance Amy. It is estimated that over 400000 people died in this region - but it is debatable as to whether Ugandans have enjoyed democracy or the rule of law that the NRM promised. The NRM under president Museveni has now been in power for over 23 years - since 1986. However the country's infrastructure, health care and education systems are failing while corruption is rampant - mostly orchestrated by government officials with impunity.
When quized about whether he still has the motivation to present on radios Gombya said 'ofcourse yes, i thrive on challenges - Uganda is now a failed state - i cannot look on while my dear country is being destroyed by an incompetent government'. Gombya has not been back to Uganda for over 21 years after escaping the brutal assassination of his friend Andrew Kayira (the former leader of the Uganda Federal Movement) at his home while celebrating his birthday. Kayira's death is still unresolved but many newspapers, opposition parties and Gombya himself assert that Kayira was killed by the NRM government.
'Tula twogere' will start this Saturday from 5pm UK time (GMT). Ngoma radio can be found at www.theugandacitizen.com/ngomaradio
